Some weeks ago (I know, I haven’t blogged for a while) my family and me went to a place on the river Po which is quite in the middle of nowhere.
There I tried my father’s racing boat for the first time.
If you want some technical specifications about the boat, here are some: it mounts a 2-litre Alfa Romeo engine, tuned up to give about 190bhp (although that day it felt bored so it probably produced only twelve, but anyway…). The hole boat, full of engines and fuel tanks, weighs about 370kgs (just like a mid-American). I think that’s enough with this boring stuff, so let’s move on to the exiciting part.
After my brother and my father had a go with it, it was finally my turn.
The photos you see above are taken by my brother and, believe it or not, that me!
It’s been an epic moment for me, ’cause not only it was my first time in a racing boat, but it was my first time on an engined thing as well (apart for my mother’s car). When I was there I enjoyed the speed a lot, and it felt like I was doing 200mph (though I was probably doing about 85mph. Still, on the water…) .

I know you’d be tempted to vomit seeing the last pic (I’d do that), so I’m sorry for that.

Last Sunday I’ve been to Venice with some fellow photographers t0 shoot at the Biennale di Venezia, one of the most famous contemporary art exhibition of the world.
First things first, I don’t quite understand some (actually many) of the works exposed there. That being said, there were also some interesting things and the most important thing of all is the people with whom I’ve been there.
I can’t emphasize enough what a great thing hanging out with other photographers is. If you do that, I’ll always learn something new. There’s always a massive share of knowledge, so you learn many things and at the same time you teach something as well.
Also, the people with whom I went to Venice are so very nice people. Here they are (I’m the one on the right):

(I made a mistake here: I used a very wide-angle lens, so my persona is distorted; I’m not that fat ).
So, thanks to all of you, I’ve had a really great time hanging out with you. Hope we will have other occasions in the future.

This will surely sound obvious, though it’s true that photography is not only about vision or technique, it’s sometimes about luckiness, as these pics demonstrate.
One morning, during my last holiday, I decided to get up earlier to go out and get some shots. Even though I was tired, I felt it was the right thing to do. So I picked the bicycle and went to the port.
I took some very ordinary shots (i.e. very boring stuff) and then I came across this boat. I liked the colors of it and I took some pictures. I initially didn’t see the cat, since he was hidden underneath the deck, but then I saw it and began to shoot like mad.
Maybe the boat itself, apart from its colors, wouldn’t have told that much of a story, but finding that cat changed the pic altogheter.

So, if you feel like you should go somewhere, it’s wise to follow that instinct (unless, of course, you feel like you should jump out of a bridge or kill somebody), ’cause you may be well rewarded.

These are a few photos I took during my holiday in Tisno, Croatia. I spent two weeks there with some really nice people. Needless to say it has been absolutely beautiful.

The place
Tisno is located on an island which belongs to the Incoronate archipelago in Dalmatia. It’s not very big a place (in fact it’s rather small) and there isn’t much to do in the evening, though if you want to relax and swim in an astonishing sea this is surely the place to go. I’ve been to other beautiful seaside places before but nothing like this. Anyways, there are some bigger towns nearby, so you can also have a busy nightlife if you like. We were staying in an apartment which was 30 steps from the sea. The housekeeper is a very nice person called Joso (hope I spelled his name correctly ), who, with his wife, besides everything else, is a tremendous fish cooker.

The people
There has always been a special feeling between Croatins and Italians. They like us more than any other people, so everyone was very cheerful with us. I like this kind of feeling with other people: they treat you as you are one of them, so you always feel like when you’re home.
I want to spend a couple of words for the people who shared the apartment with us. Without saying names, they are so very fantastic people. If this holiday has been a success, in  big part is due to them. So, if you’re reading this, thanks again for the time we’ve passed toghether.

The sea
The sea there is biblical. The water is so transparent you can see the bottom even if it’s many meters beneath. Also, because it’s an archipelago, there are many isles you can explore if you have a boat and they also protect from winds, so the sea is quite always very calm (so you don’t need a big boat to move around).

The food
I just can’t descibe how delicious was the food I ate while I was there. If you like fish you’ll find paradise. If you like meat… you’re screwed! Just kidding… there is good meat too, but I didn’t eat too much of it because when I’m at the seaside I eat mostly fish.
Let me suggest some very good places around Tisno: first, there’s Carmen, just outside Tisno, on the hinterland. Then there’s Galeb, another good place just past the bridge which connects Tisno with the hinterland. Though the best place is Kandela. It’s located in Jezera, another small town on the same island as Tisno and 2 minutes by car from it. If you order grilled tuna (it’s available only one once or twice per week) you’ll refuse to eat anything else in your life. Trust me: it is THAT delicious.

Conclusions
Let’s just say this. When I come back from holidays I always have a freat time, but I’m also happy to come back home. This time, though, when it was time to leave it has been quite a sad moment and I feel nostalgia. I had the time of my life, thanks to the astonishing place and the fanstastic people we’ve been living with.

Some weeks ago I’ve been to the mountains. It was a beautiful day. We did long and tough walks and my camera backpack made my journey even tougher (6 kilos of equipment!). I also carried my tripod and at some point I couldn’t remember why I had such a brilliant idea (God, it was heavy!). When I reached the peak my efforts were finally rewarded, since there was such a wonderful sight.

So I took off my tripod and shot these panos. Hope you like them!
